Humanize AI research summaries and literature notes

Summarising a paper with an AI assistant is fast and, too often, forgettable: the summary is fluent, evenly hedged, and could be about almost any study. It also reads as machine-made to a classifier. AntiGPT rewrites the summary so it carries the emphasis and phrasing of someone who actually read the paper, while you keep control of the facts, which a rewrite must never invent.

Accuracy comes first

A humanizer changes how a summary reads, not whether it is true. Before you rewrite, make sure the summary reflects the source: the actual claim, the sample, the caveat the authors themselves raised. Models routinely soften limitations and overstate findings. Fix those against the paper first, then humanize. Otherwise you are polishing an error until it sounds confident.

Keep numbers, effect sizes, and author names exactly as they are; do not let a rewrite paraphrase '43% of participants' into 'many participants'. The University or Doctorate readability setting helps preserve technical vocabulary and precise quantifiers.

What changes in a good summary

AI summaries lean on a template: 'This study explores… The findings suggest… However, further research is needed.' Humanizing breaks that mould. Enhanced mode varies the sentence rhythm, replaces the stock connective tissue, and lets you foreground what actually mattered about the paper: the surprising result, the clever method, the flaw. That emphasis is what turns a summary into a note you can revise from later.

Work one summary at a time. After each rewrite, ask whether a reader would learn what the paper contributed and where it is weak. If not, that is a content problem to fix by hand, not something a rewrite will solve.

A workflow for a literature review

Summarise each source with your assistant, correct each summary against the source, then run each through AntiGPT in Enhanced mode. Paste the summaries individually so you can keep the phrasing that is already yours and rework the rest. Assemble the humanized summaries into your review, then write the connective argument (how the sources relate, where they disagree) in your own words; that synthesis is the part that is genuinely yours and the part a marker or editor cares about.

Run the detector on the assembled section to see how it reads to a classifier, and treat a lower estimated-AI score as a signal that the prose has stopped sounding templated, not as permission to skip your own review.

Citations and quotations

Never rewrite a direct quotation or a citation; paste the surrounding text and reinsert them afterwards. Where you paraphrase a source, the paraphrase must still be faithful: a smoother sentence that drifts from the original meaning is worse than a clumsy accurate one. Read each rewritten summary against its source one last time before it goes in.

A worked example

Before

This study explores the relationship between sleep and academic performance. The findings suggest that students who sleep more tend to perform better. However, it is important to note that further research is needed to fully understand this complex relationship.

After

Curtis et al. tracked 214 undergraduates for a term and found each extra hour of habitual sleep predicted a 0.11 rise in GPA, modest but steady across the sample. The obvious caveat is that they measured correlation, not cause: anxious, over-committed students both sleep less and score lower, and the study can't separate the two.

The rewrite names the source, keeps the real numbers, states what kind of finding it is (correlational), and raises the specific confound: everything the template version smoothed away.

Detector scores are estimates from third-party classifiers and change as those tools update. No text can be guaranteed to pass any detector. Use this to improve your writing, and follow your institution's or employer's rules on AI use.

Questions

Will it change my facts?

It should not, but check: rewrite, then read the result against the source. Keep numbers, names and quotations exact, and fix any drift by hand.

Which setting for research notes?

Enhanced with University or Doctorate readability keeps technical vocabulary while varying the prose.

Can I summarise a whole paper at once?

Summarise and correct first; then humanize section by section so you keep control of accuracy and emphasis.
