How are words counted?

We count the words in the text you submit, once, when you press Humanize: normalise whitespace, split on it, and count each token that contains at least one letter or digit. Punctuation and standalone symbols are not words. The live counter uses the same rule as the server, so what you see is what you're charged.

We count input only. A rewrite that comes back longer than what you pasted costs nothing extra.
